God can do great things in plain sight. He can send a prophet, restore an ancient record by miraculous means; provide witnesses who saw the plates and handled them, even provide an angelic witness of the record’s authenticity; yet, we can reject all these God-given proofs and insist science is a better way to determine the truth of all things. And through rather shaky suppositions, we build a contrary argument which allows us to reject God’s offering and proofs given us.
God is not unwilling to give us proofs. But we ignore His proofs and choose others. As we do, we surrender the only thing which can actually bring us peace in this life. And we find ourselves among those who find there is no peace. Peace comes through obedience. Obedience is the exclusive property of the righteous. It is a circle which returns to itself, but one which the unrighteous never recognize, and therefore never enjoy. Though these things are absolutely certain and will work for any soul who follows Him, very few are willing. There is, therefore, no peace for the wicked. Neither in Nephi’s time nor in our own is there peace in unrighteousness.
