Conquest and Subjugation are the taking of land and the placing of people under another power. Moroni knew that the Lamanites intended “to destroy their brethren, or to subject them and bring them into bondage” that they might “establish a kingdom unto themselves over all the land” (Alma 43:29).
Those who were prepared supposed that they could “easily overpower and subject their brethren to the yoke of bondage,” or “slay and massacre them according to their pleasure” (Alma 49:7). A king had been appointed, and he supposed that maintaining Zarahemla “will enable the Lamanites to conquer the remainder of the land” (Alma 61:8).
