Crime and punishment is the judging and punishing of people for offenses under law. A speaker states, “whosoever has committed iniquity, him have I punished according to the crime which he has committed,” according to a law given by the fathers (Mosiah 29:15).
The people of the church brought “the man who slew him” before Alma, “to be judged according to the crimes which he had committed” (Alma 1:10). A law provided that men “should be judged according to their crimes,” while “there was no law against a man’s belief” (Alma 30:11).
Some people sought witnesses against others so they might be delivered to judges and “slain or cast into prison, according to the crime” made to appear against them (Alma 10:13). Lawyers were hired or appointed by the people to administer the law at trials before judges (Alma 10:14).
