Cumeni Captured Provisions

The Lamanite supply train seized by Helaman’s forces outside Cumeni

Cumeni Captured Provisions are the supplies taken by Nephites before they entered the city Cumeni. A strong force surrounded Cumeni shortly before its defenders were “to receive a supply of provisions” (Alma 57:8). When the provisions arrived and were about to enter the city, the Nephites “did take them and their provisions” (Alma 57:10).

The Lamanites were “cut off from their support” after the Nephites took the provisions. The Nephites sent the provisions to Judea and their prisoners to the land of Zarahemla. The Lamanites then “began to lose all hopes of succor” and yielded up Cumeni (Alma 57:11-12).

An Ma 57:8 — Helaman's forces surround Cumeni by night, a little before its garrison is due to receive a supply of provisions.

An Ma 57:10 — The provisions arrive and are about to enter the city by night; the receiving force is Nephite rather than Lamanite, and both the escort and the provisions are taken.

An Ma 57:11-12 — Though cut off from support, the Lamanites are still determined to maintain the city, so the captured provisions are sent to Judea and the prisoners to Zarahemla; only after some days do they lose all hopes of succor and yield up the city.
