Learning is instruction and knowledge received. Nephi said he was “taught somewhat in all the learning of my father” and made his record in a language consisting of “the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians” (1 Nephi 1:1-2). Nephi wrote scriptures engraven on the plates of brass “for the learning and the profit of my children” (2 Nephi 4:15).
Among the people, ranks were distinguished partly by “their chances for learning”; some were ignorant because of poverty, and others “did receive great learning because of their riches” (3 Nephi 6:12). Mormon, when about ten years old, said he “began to be learned somewhat after the manner of the learning of my people” (Mormon 1:2).
