Translation

Translation is the interpretation of languages, engravings, and records into another language. King Limhi asked whether Ammon could translate writings whose language and engravings no one in the land could interpret, because he desired that the records be translated “into our language”. Ammon said that a man could “translate all records that are of ancient date” through interpreters, which were called “a gift from God” (Mosiah 8:11-13).

Mosiah translated the gold-plate records found by Limhi’s people “by the means of those two stones which were fastened into the two rims of a bow,” prepared for “the purpose of interpreting languages” (Mosiah 28:11-14). Mosiah also interpreted engravings on a large stone “by the gift and power of God” (Omni 1:20). Mormon wrote that “none other people knoweth our language,” and that the Lord had prepared means for its interpretation (Mormon 9:32-34).
