Alms

Alms is aid given to poor people. A speaker commanded, “do alms unto the poor,” while warning against doing them “before men to be seen of them” (3 Nephi 13:1). He said, “when thou doest alms let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth” (3 Nephi 13:3).

A speaker directed each person to “impart of your substance to the poor,” including “feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and administering to their relief” (Mosiah 4:26). The people of Ammon received poor Zoramites, “did nourish them, and did clothe them,” and gave them lands for inheritance (Alma 35:9).
